The first day of Rome was like we were being sent to the depths of hell with Hades. Our luggage was an hour late, the metro drivers were on strike so we had to walk 40 min with our heavy packs to our hostel, once we got to the hostel the people were gone for the evening so we couldn't get in, I had to use patchy Italian to try and contact the owner by a phone in the dirty/scary metro, and all-in-all we spent about five hours of our first day in frustration.
That night was more redeeming. After eating Pizza and Gelato we were feeling a little better. We also walked down to the colosseum to see it at night and it was very surreal that we were actually in Rome looking up at the colosseum.
The next day was packed full of sight-seeing and adventure. We saw the Trevi fountain, Piazza Nuovo, Everything in the Vatican (St. Peter's, Vatican libraries, and Sistine chapel), and many many other things that I've forgotten their names. We ate pizza and gelato for dinner/lunch again and called it a night after A LOT of walking (the metro was still on strike).
The last day in Rome was spent at the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. It was amazing to walk where Julius Caesar did. SO COOL! Rome has been a blast and now it is time to go to FLORENCE!!! I get to see where my mom lived and went to school (so cool!).
